CLAYTON, Ill. -- Henry Shepherd, 77, of Clayton, died at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday(Feb. 17, 1982) in his home.
Mr. Shepherd was born Sept. 5, 1904 in Pea Ridge Township in Brown County, a son of William Wesley and Hannah Kindhart Shepherd. He married Gertrude Syrcle in Quincy on Jan. 2, 1937. She survives.
He was a member of Clayton Baptist Church and the Clayton Lions Club. He was recently featured in the national Lions magazine for having perfect attendance for 31 years.
He had operated his own trucking business and worked for the Illinois Department of Highways for 13 years. In 1946, he and a brother, Alvin, established the Shepherd Bros. Garage in Clayton and specialized working on farm implements. He was still currently working full-time in the garage.
Surviving are his wife; three brothers, Loren of Clayton and Alvin and William, both of Timewell; two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Alta) Herren of Clayton and Mrs. Harm (Mae) Herren of Augusta.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Clayton Baptist Church. Burial will be in the South Side Cemetery at Clayton. Hamilton Funeral Home in Clayton is handling the arrangements.
