Mrs. Zina Howell Dies In Ashton

ASHTON, Sept. 8 — Mrs. Zina Gunter Howell, 78, a longtime resident of the Ashton area, died Thursday morning at the Ashton hospital following a lingering illness.

She was born Oct. 24, 1887 at Dillsboro, N.C., the daughter of James and Sarah York Gunter. When she was four years old her parents moved to Marsh Valley, Idaho, and a year later to Willard, Utah, where she attended elementary school.

In 1897 the family moved to Marysville, Idaho, where she finished her schooling.

She married David T. Howell Dec. 24, 1909 at Warm River, Idaho. The couple took up residence on a homestead eight miles east of Ashton where she resided the rest of her life. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS temple.

She was an active member of the LDS church.

She is survived by six sons: Burt, Thornton; Lewis, Rexburg; Forrest, Joseph, Dallas and Edward, all Ashton; one daughter, Mrs. John (June) McCord, Ashton; three brothers: Samuel and William Gunter, both Montecino, Washington, and Mitchell Günter, Pocatello.

Her husband, who died June 22, 1936; four infant children; a son, Russell, who was killed in an auto accident July 2, 1967; one brother and four sisters preceded her in death.

Survivors also include 25 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Marysville LDS Ward Chapel, with Bishop Morgan Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at the Pineview Cemetery, Ashton.

Friends may call at the Robert Bean Funeral Home in Ashton Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the chapel from 12:30 until the service Saturday.
