Edna "Virginia" Cornett, age 94, of Centerville, Iowa, died Friday, December 14, 2012, at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Joseph Frank and Alpharetta May(Fisher)Thomas on November 10, 1918 near Jerome, Iowa. She graduated from the Centerville Community High School in Centerville, Iowa.
On May 28, 1938, Virginia was united in marriage to Kenneth "Bill" Cornett in Unionville, Missouri. She worked for several area families as a homemaker. For nearly 70 years, she was a member of the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Kenneth "Bill" Cornett; daughter, Eloise Stickler; brothers, James Edward, Floyd Arthur, Lloyd Richard and Lawrence Franklin Thomas; sisters, Charlotte Susan Curtis, Gustava May Marshall, Mildred Lucille Green-Karth, Leonora Ruth Anders, Lula Maurine Thomas, Loia Marie Archer, Donna June White and Lila Lee Thomas.
Virginia is survived by: her children, Linda Van Dike of Centerville, Iowa; Loretta Allen and her husband, Tom of Centerville, Iowa and Christina Smith and her husband, Ron of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Terry Chapman and Rev. Tony Angran officiating. Burial will follow at the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012 from 1 pm until 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville and the family will be present from 6-8 pm. Memorials can be made to the Solid Rock Church of god in Centerville. The Schmidt Family Funeral Home of Centerville has been entrusted with the services.
