SHAMROCK - Opal Clara Beaty, 91, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, in Haskell.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Shamrock Cemetery with the Rev. Dewayne Beaty, associate pastor of First Baptist Church in Longview, officiating. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dewayne Beaty officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Beaty was born Nov. 16, 1912, near Adell in Wilbarger County, the first child of A.L. and Cretia Sammons McCray. She passed away May 15, 2004, in Haskell.

She went to school at Center in the Twitty Community until high school. She moved to Shamrock to board with a family until she graduated from Shamrock High School in 1931.

She trusted Jesus in the late 20s and was baptized in Cole Creek south of Shamrock. She met George Beaty at a church Christmas party at Twitty and they married Dec. 10, 1933, in Gageby. They lived on the farm at Twitty until 1938 when they moved to Shamrock. They had two children, Dewayne of Longview and Donna of Haskell.

She had been a member of First Baptist Church in Shamrock since 1938. She was a member of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge and WMU of First Baptist Church. She taught beginner or 4- and 5-year-old Sunday school class at First Baptist for many years.

She went to work in the Shamrock School cafeteria in 1950. She was to only work one day for a lady that was sick, although she retired there in 1978 after working for 27 years. She was supervisor for many years.

When her health began to fail, she moved to Haskell to be near her family. She loved Shamrock and spoke often of coming back one day. She missed her friends so much, although she kept the people in Haskell entertained with delightful stories of days gone by.

She was cared for lovingly by caregivers, Ruth Jimenez, Eloisa Soto and Mary Mendoza.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 24, 1983, just before their 50th wedding anniversary; her parents; a brother, Wiley McCray; a sister, Ada M. Braxton; and a grandson, Adam Lee Cole.

Survivors include a son, Dewayne Beaty and wife, Claudia, of Longview; a daughter, Donna Cole and husband, Ford, of Haskell; four grandchildren, D'Anna Beaty of Longview, David and Rosie Beaty of Waco; Kerre and Jason Starch of Bryan and Loren Cole of Abilene; a sister, Betty Baird of Goodnight; numerous cousins; and a great host of friends.

The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-001.
