Jane Macdonald Milne Inglis was born at 7h 15 m am at 9 Trafalgar Street, North Leith to Charles Robertson Inglis, a butcher (master) and Margaret Johnston Inglis ms Sandilands married 1898, November 15th in South Leith. The witness was the child's mother Margaret J. Inglis. The birth was registered on 25 September 1899 at North Leith.
In 1901, when the Census was taken, one-year old Jane and her parents Charles and Margaret were living at 44 West Bowling Green Street in the parish of St-Cuthberts, Leith.
The 1923 marriage record for Jane McD Milne Inglis indicates Jane was 23, a spinster working as a clerk and living at 71 North Fort Street Leith. Her parents were Charles Robertson Inglis, butcher's manager and Margaret Johnstone Inglis ms (maiden surname) Sandilands. Ethel Inglis also a resident of 71 North Fort Street witnessed Jane's marriage.
Twelve days after their wedding Alfred arrived in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Twenty-three year old Jean Shewan arrived in the port of Quebec on 11 June 1923 aboard the Saturnia which had sailed from Edinburgh, England. The Declaration of Passenger to Canada stated her occupation was clerkess. That she was a wife, born in Leith, Protestant-Pres., going to Canada to join her husband Alfred Shewan, address Post Office, Peterburgh, Ontario, and intending to remain permanently in Canada. She had the equivalent of $25 in her possession. Her passage was paid by her husband. Her nearest relative was her mother, Mrs. Margaret Inglis of 71 Northfort St., Leith.
In 1925 the Quebec Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 Pointe-St-Charles (Presbyterian Saint Mathew) registry, folio 54 states: Jane Maconald Milin Inglis wife of Alfred Donald Shewan of the city of Montreal and Province of Quebec died at Montreal on the second day of October one thousand nine hundred and twenty five aged twenty-six years and was buried by me at Mt. Although she was known as Jean by her family, her given name was Jane. Jane was the daughter of Charles Robertson Inglis (1874 - 1926), a butcher's manager, and Margaret Johnstone Sandilands (1877 - 1926). Charles and Margaret were married on Nov 18, 1898 in South Leith.

On Feb 14, 1923, Jane married Alfred Donald Shewan (1895 - 1977) at Kinnairds Hall in Leith. At the time of her marriage, Jane was 23, a clerkess and living in North Leith.

Almost immediately after their marriage ceremony in Scotland, Alfred emigrated alone to Canada, arriving in Saint John, New Bruswick on Feb 26, 1923 and settled initially in Peterburgh, Ontario. Jane emigrated three and a half months later, leaving Edinburgh on board the ship Saturina, arriving at the port of Quebec on Jun 11, 1923 where she reunited with her husband. On Sep 27, 1925, Jane gave birth to a son, Robert Donald Shewan (1925 - 2012).

Jane died Oct 2, 1925, just five days after the birth of Robert. She was 26 years old.
