Mary Beth Autry Gerard, 63, of Blooming Grove passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at her residence.
She was born July 12, 1947, in Kerens, to Lester Earl and Eula Mae Tarkington.
Mrs. Gerard began her career as an elementary teacher with the Mildred School District and was there for numerous years. She then taught at Ennis ISD for several years before moving on to the Dawson Elementary School, where she taught third grade for the past 10 years. She was a well respected teacher, loved by both students and faculty, and is a great loss to the education system. She will be sorely missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Les Tarkington and Steven Tarkington; daughter, Sandra Edwards; and late husband, Dr. Frank Autry.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Gerard of Blooming Grove; daughter, Beth Horner and husband Lance of Corsicana; son, Larry Edwards and wife Angela of Enid, Okla.; sisters, Mae Silva, and Linda Fricker and husband Ken; grandchildren, Wayne Cope, Daniel Cope, Madison Strebeck, Dalton Fraser, Zachary Fraser, Dalton Horner, Caleb Horner, Brendan Horner, Curtis Kessler, Hannah Edwards, and Brianna Edwards; she is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Corley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Bancroft officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Point Cemetery in Bazette. Pallbearers will be Daniel Cope, Wayne Cope, Mike Conger, Dalton Horner, Bobby Douglas, and Daniel Dunahoo.
