The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle from 6 PM to 8 PM.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Oakboro Cemetery.
At other times, the family will meet at her daughter, Patricia Edwards home, 9101 Richard Sandy Rd. in Oakboro.
Annie was born in Albemarle on July 31, 1915, to the late Johnny William Poplin and the late Ferbie Ann Lou Mabry Poplin.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Roscoe Austin; sisters, Eleanor Skidmore, Lessie Carpenter, Odessa Lambert, Docie Burleson and Flora Lee Austin; brothers, Raymond, Marshall, Odell, Vaughn, Arnold and J.B. Poplin
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Edwards and husband Dr. Allan Edwards of Asheboro; two granddaughters, Denise Edwards of Asheboro, and Allanda Edwards of Greensboro; a great granddaughter, Arissa Copper of Raleigh.
Mrs. Austin worked as a seamstress for Lillian Hosiery Mills, F.E. Huneycutt's and later for Oakboro Hardware, also Foreman and Whitley Hardware where she was known as "Ms. Ann".
She loved working with people, working in her yard and flowers, and making cakes with her granddaughters. She was a faithful member of Oakboro Presbyterian Church.
