JESSIE LEE PONDER BEAVERS Jessie Lee Ponder Beavers, 92, a longtime Hapeville, GA resident, passed away on October 20, 2008 from complications of a stroke. Born November 12, 1915 in the Buffington Community of rural Cherokee County (Canton) Georgia to George Ransom Ponder and Harrietta Avery Ponder. Reared in a Christian home as the youngest daughter with 9 brothers and sisters; Lavada, Flora, Annie Laura, William, Mary Lois, Myra, Dollie, Jewell, and the youngest, George Ransom, Jr., all having predeceased her by many years. Early farm life in rural Canton during the depression was very hard in the 20s and 30s, especially for the baby in the family. After a limited formal educational opportunity, athletic achievement and a lot of hard farm and domestic work, Jessie Lee married Roy Milton Beavers in 1936. Their first son, Kenneth was born in 1937 as they set up housekeeping in the county until 1942, movino Pascagoula, Mississippi, where she did her part in the defense of this nation. After the war, they returned to Atlanta where Jessie displayed the many traits of a faithful, loving and supportive housewife and mother. A son, David Stanley was born in 1949 and all moved to Hapeville, Georgia to continue the family furniture business that lasted for over 60 years. She was the quintessential homemaker and support arm of her husband and 2 sons. She enjoyed traveling the world on pleasure trips, including watching Ken pursue his military career or Stan play college football. She revelled in her 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She loved to babysit and have them visit in her home in Hapeville for over 50 years. She spent the past many months at Westbury Medical Care Home in Jackson, GA. As a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Hapeville, she has gone on to her reward to be with the Father and rejoin her beloved husband Roy of 63 years. She is survived by sons and daughters in law, Ken and Ann Beavers, Covington, GA, and Stan and Patsy Beavers, Hampton, GA; grandchildren, Ken, Jr., (her principle caregiver for the past many years), Wayde, Joilynn, Christy, Jennifer and Beth; great grandchildren, Somer Lynn, Matt, Keely, Taylor, Neely and Hayley; and numerous nephews and nieces.
