Portsmouth - Claire Angeline Causey "Angie" Owens, 91, formerly of the 300 block of Sandpiper Drive and a resident of Maryview Nursing Center since December, 2009, passed from this life on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012.
Born in Craven County, NC in 1921, she was predeceased by her husband, Collins Leonard Owens, Sr., her daughter, Jane Claire Owens, her parents Ottis Causey and Eva Stokes Causey and all of her three brothers and seven sisters. A registered nurse, Angie graduated from the King's Daughters Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. She served as an Army nurse in France from shortly after D-Day through the duration of the war in Europe. Angie was a school nurse with Portsmouth Public Schools from 1960 until 1981, at Simonsdale, Hodges Manor and Shea Terrace Elementary Schools.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Lynn Owens of Portsmouth; a son, Collins L. Owens, Jr., of Newport News; granddaughter, Claire Elizabeth Owens of Hampton; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to express its thanks and appreciation to the staffs at Maryview Nursing Center and Province Place for the kindness and care they provided during Angie's final years.
A graveside service will be Thursday in Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth by the Chaplain Chuck Leavitt. www.bwfosterfuneralhome.com.
