William Dawson Alexander is the son of Jonathan Davis Alexander and Sarah Isabella (Henderson) Alexander. He is shown with his parents and siblings in the following Censuses:

- 22 Jul 1870 CENSUS; P.O. Bear Creek, Militia Dist. 723, Henry Co., GA.
- 05 Jun 1880 CENSUS; Gainesville, Hall Co., GA.

W. D. 1st married Irene Jackson on 08 May 1890 in Fulton Co., GA. They had at least 8 children:

- Margaret Isabel Alexander (30 May 1891-10 Dec 1960)
- David Cleon "Cle" Alexander (21 Jul 1892-21 Sep 1945)
- Unknown Alexander (btw 1890&1900-bef 1900)
- William Daniel "Dan" Alexander (Jan 1895-c1996)

W. D. started as a Bicycle Dealer in Atlanta and then as automobiles came into vogue, he also carried automobile supplies.

He had the FIRST AUTOMOBILE (a Locomobile "Runabout") c1903 in ATLANTA, GA!!!

He was the President of Alexander-Seewald Co. (pioneer automobile jobbers, exclusively wholesale) located at 291 Peachtree Street. In 1925, all three warehouses moved to 102 West Peachtree Street. Also in 1925, the Jacksonville, FL branch opened.

After Irene's death on 15 Apr 1916, W. D. 2nd married Miss Bertha Dentzel Brady on 27 Jul 1916 probably in Fulton Co., GA. They were only married for almost 3 1/2 years when W. D. died suddenly on 07 Dec 1919.
