July 16, 1936 - December 8, 2012
William Daniel (Dan) Heuck was born in Boise, Idaho on July 16, 1936. He grew up in Nampa, Idaho. Dan was the son of Dr. Clarence L. and Cleo Ruth Heuck. After the death of Clarence Heuck, Cleo married Dr. Samuel A. Swayne, who Dan looked on as a most beloved father.
Dan graduated from Nampa High School, Browns Military Academy in San Diego, CA, and Florida State University at Tallahassee, FL.
Dan served in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Jacksonville, Florida where he met and married Lavonne McCall. Dan was a Parole and Probation officer for the State of Florida. He was Regional Claims Manager at Safeco Insurance in Seattle, Washington for 28 years.
He served as Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America. As a youth he was a boy scout and proud of it.
For the past 21 years he has owned and operated Dan's Ferry Service at Walter's Ferry, Idaho. Dan enjoyed Silver City on his days off. He never grew tired of enjoying the view from his deck. The house was often being worked on by his nephew, Jim Hyslop, and friends, Dave Wilper and Pete Burrill. Sitting on the deck watching them and listening to their banter was such a pleasure to him.
Dan was a devoted husband and father. His wife, children and grandchildren thought he was extraordinary.
Dan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lavonne; his son, Daniel (Rose) Heuck, and granddaughter, Faith; his daughter, Samantha (Steven) Horst and his granddaughters, Gillian, Elisabeth and Cleo; sisters: Betty (Ted) Keith, Julie Hyslop, and Phyllis (Harold) Thomas, and their families; and his brother, Bruce (Andrea) Swayne, and his family.
He is also survived by the very special employees at Dan's Ferry service, without whose dedication the store would not survive. He is also survived by the many customers and friends who he truly valued and loved. Among them are special friends, Jim and Lita Hoagland.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan's memory can be made to the Silver City Fire Department, Murphy-Reynolds Wilson Fire Department, or the Melba Fire Department.
There will be no public funeral. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at a viewing Thursday evening, December 13, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Avenue South, Nampa.
