OBITUARY

ELZAN RISSLER YOCUM

Elzan Rissler, daughter of George and Martha Rissler, was born in Putnam county, Ind., November 19, 1852, and passed away at her home in Confidence, Oct. 7, 1929, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 18 days. She came to Iowa with her parents when one year old.

On January 16, 1873, she was married to James F. Yocum. They moved to Franklin county, Nebraska, where they lived nine years, and in 1882 came back to Wayne county and lived on a farm until the death of her husband, January 18, 1917. She then moved to Confidence.

To them were born ten children, three of whom died in infancy, and one son, E. M., who died May 8, 1920. The surviving children are: Mrs. Cora Kern of Promise City, Mrs. Ida Atwell of Chariton, Mrs. Minnie Barker, Mrs. Anna Thatcher, Miss Ethel Yocum and Fred Yocum of Confidence.

The children were all near enough to be present to administer to their mother's need during her long sickness. There are fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Rosalie McCloud of Mystic and two half brothers, Charlie and Jim Rissler, both of Confidence.

She became a Christian and united with the Church of Christ at Confidence when a young girl and for more than sixty years she has been a devoted follower of Christ. The church and Sunday School received her first consideration for she was always there. She has been sadly missed from the Sunday School during her illness, but it is a sweet consolation to know that she has gone up higher to be with Jesus.

Funeral services were conducted from the church at Confidence and she was tenderly laid to rest in the Confidence cemetery.
