E. H. VAN BENTHUSEN

Enos H. Van Benthusen was born in Lucas county, Iowa, on Feb. 24, 1874, and passed away Dec. 19, 1936, aged 62 years, 9 months and 24 days. His early life and young manhood were spent on his mother's farm near Confidence.

On March 9, 1898, he was married to Martha Smith, and to this union were born three daughters, Mrs. Floy Yocum, Confidence; Mrs. Oneida Mosby, Plano; and Mrs. Osa Rowe, Oskaloosa.

Besides the sorrowing wife and daughters he leaves to mourn his loss two brothers and a sister, E. A. Van Benthusen, of Seymour; S. A. Van Benthusen and Mrs. Maggie Lewis, Confidence; nine grandchildren, Rex, Max and Dean Yocum; Doyle, Phyllis and Burdette Mosby; Edna, James and Betty Lou Rowe. Also an aged father-in-law, Eli Smith and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Willie, and a half sister.

Early in life he accepted Christ as his Saviour and united with the Christian church at Confidence. The church and Sunday school always received his first consideration and throughout the years, until he moved from that community, he served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher. His last class was a class of boys, in whom he took a keen interest and who will remember him for his faithful and untiring service on their behalf.

"Ene," as he was familiarly known, numbered his friends by his acquaintances, and his life in their midst truly bespoke his Christian character. He will be greatly missed in the home circle and by neighbors and friends.

Largely attended funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals, of Russell, were held at the church in Confidence Sunday afternoon and burial was in the Confidence cemetery.
