Chapman Rites Set Tomorrow
Funeral services for M. E. Chapman, 69-year-old resident of this city, who died suddenly at his home, 1100 North Fant Street yesterday at 6:30 p.m. of a heart attack, will be held from the McDougald-Bleckley Mortuary tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Rev J. Henry Kohler, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Silver Brook cemetery.
Active pallbearers: W. C. Gilmer, E. C. Pennell, William Farmer, Ervin Campbell, J. W. Smith and Lee Ellison.
News of Mr. Chapman's sudden passing comes as a great shock to a host of friends and relatives in this section, for though he had been suffering poor health for the past several years, his condition was not thought to be serious.
He came to Anderson from Starr in 1918 to make his home. By trade he was a bookkeeper and accountant, having been associated with the Anderson Fertilizer Mill for the past thirty years.
Mr. Chapman was born and spent his early life in Elbert County. He was a son of the late James E. Chapman and Alice Turner Chapman, members of well-known Georgia families. He was a devoted member of St John's Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Emma McMullan Chapman of this city; one daughter, Mrs. Wade Skelton of Anderson; and two sons, Vic Chapman and James Chapman, also of this city; three brothers, J. Curren Chapman and J. E. Chapman of Anderson and Rufus K. Chapman of Mountain City, Ga. ; two sisters, Mrs. Rytis Blair of Clayton, Mrs. Della Dillard, Cornelia,Ga.; and three grandchildren.
The body is at the mortuary pending rites.
