Mayanna Smith LEBANON
Mayanna Smith, age 106, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, in Spang Crest Manor, Lebanon. Born on August 30, 1900, in Pine Grove Township, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Mary Kreichbaum Mease. She attended the Pine Grove rural schools and had been employed for the former Fox-Knapp Mfg. in Pine Grove, earning 50 cents a day. She was a member of the Mary E. Moore Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 372 in Pine Grove, and was the oldest member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pine Grove. She had been married on December 24, 1919, in the church parsonage, by the late Rev. Harry Dollman, to Elvin Smith of Pine Grove, who passed away on January 6, 1984. They were married for 64 years. The Smith's moved to Lebanon after Mr. Smith retired from the Ford dealership in Pine Grove and lived in the same home in Lebanon, living independently until she turned to 102, when she moved to Spang Crest Manor in 2002. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Kathleen Hochstrasser and Geraldine Canan; two sisters, Lucia Adams, Esther Miller; and a brother, Leroy Mease. Surviving are two grandchildren, Eric Hochstrasser of Reston, Virginia, Cheryl Spinosa of Schnecksville, Pa.; three great-grandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, at 11 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, 222 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, with SALM John Ziegler officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove. There will not be any viewing or calling time. The family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the St. John's Lutheran Church, 222. S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, PA 17963, in her memory. The H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
