Undine Hugo attended Mary Baldwin Seminary in Staunton, Virginia in the 1913 and 1914 school years. The institution was founded in 1842 as the Augusta Female Seminary. It became Mary Baldwin Junior College in 1916 and Mary Baldwin College in 1923.

While a student at Mary Baldwin, Undine was a Member of the Executive Board of the Student Association, and she was a Member and President of the Hawthorne Literary Society. She was also a member of Reds, a social and civic organization composed of girls with red hair, and a member of The Texas Club. She majored in music and was a noted pianist.

Undine's grave is apparently unmarked. Or, the marker has been swallowed up by the St. Augustine grass. The photo on this page shows a northward view of the area of Section 13 where her and her husband's graves are located. Brays Bayou runs along the back (west) side of this pretty section of the cemetery.

On the next page of photos is one showing her husband's gravestone and the area adjacent (north) of his grave where her grave is located.

Speed Smith and Undine Hugo had one known child who grew to adulthood. Their son, Gay Smith, was born in Houston, Harris, Texas on 11 Jan 1926. He died 06 Jun 2003 at the U.S. Consulate, Mexico City, Mexico and was buried at the Panthson Cemetery, San Miguel DE Allende Gto, Mx 37700 El Paso, TX 79912 as recorded in U.S. Veterans Gravesites records.
