Muriel M. Ludwig England, 91, lived with us for a time, but now lives with God for eternity.

Born in Elkhart, IN, February 9, 1919 to Walter Wesley Ludwig and Lillian Bilstein Ludwig, she passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010. Muriel died peacefully at home in Sherman, Texas with family by her side.

Muriel is survived by 4 daughters and their families: Sharon and Marvin Griffith, Marlyn and Bernie Penrose of Sherman TX, Linda Walker of Dallas, TX and Susan and Rod McCutcheon of San Antonio, TX.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Woodrow Martin England; brother, Alfred Wesley Ludwig; and sister, Ruth Henderson Young.

"GG" cherished her grandchildren: grandsons: Jay Griffith, Jeff Griffith, Henry Woodrow Ramsey and Adam Walker, and granddaughters: Valerie Griffith Grant, Vanya Lee Griffith, Cheryl Ramsey Wilson, Tara McCutcheon Crawley, and Daphne Morris Griffith; 15 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Muriel graduated from Weslaco High School and was responsible for organizing many high school reunions for her class. She studied music at Incarnate Word College; was a life member of the PTA; and a church and school volunteer. In 1958 Muriel and Woody moved their family to Austin from San Juan, TX. In 1981 she retired after 25 years of service with the AISD and the Texas State Highway Dept. As a member of St. John's United Methodist Church for over 50 years, Muriel served the Lord in numerous capacities. St. John's was her second family. In 2007, Muriel left a life-time of friends and celebrations and moved to Sherman, Texas where two of her daughters reside.

Muriel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her home was a "gathering place." Life was a celebration. "GG's" comfort food and hardy hug always welcomed you. Throughout her lifetime her compassion for others meant preparing meals for the ill, and for those celebrating personal milestones and special events. Muriel is already missed. May God continue to keep her in his care until we meet again.

Pallbearers include sons-in-law; Marvin Griffith, Rod McCutcheon and Bernie Penrose and grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers are Neil Grant, Arnold Wilson, Joey Crawley, Mark England, Jack Latson, Sam Warrington, Eugene Kincaid, Dave Wallace, and John Anderson.

The family will receive visitors at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, Saturday, March 13, 6-8 pm. Private family graveside services will be held at Austin Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2140 Allandale Rd., Sunday, March 14, 3 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Muriel's name to St. John's UMC, Austin, or a charity of choice.
