He was retired from the B&O Railroad after 40 years as an engineer. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Brunswick, the Brunswick Lions Club, B&O Veterans Association and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
In addition to his wife are two sons, James S. Cox, Jr., and Steven B. Cox, Knoxville; brother, Welby C. Cox, Jr., Falls Church, Va.; and two grandsons.
He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Cox.
Services were held at the John T. Williams Funeral Home; interment was in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick.
