Parents were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Farmer of Terre Haute, two brothers Dean of Indianapolis and Virgil of Dayton, Ohio along with two sisters Mrs. Kathryn Williams of Muncie and Mrs. Harry Brewer of Terre Haute. George was killed in action while crossing the Rhine River near Spellen,Germany during WWII. His remains were buried in Margraten Military Cemetary near Aachen, Germany, until sometime after 10 May 1947 when he was transported by the funeral ship Barney Kirschbaum to New York. His wife was Gretchen "Betty" Growcock of Elkhart, Indiana. They were married 20 Apr 1940 in Elkhart, Indiana.
Updated 01 Mar 2021-George's remains were returned Tuesday, April 25, 1949. The funeral was held Wednesday April 26, 1949 with burial after the service. Callahan Funeral Home was used.
