George was the son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Higgins Eckerd. He was married to Martha Ann Michael on December 25, 1893.George E. Eckerd, 80, died Monday Morning, May 17, at his home near Spohrs Cross Roads after an illness of five weeks. He had engaged in farming until retiring a few years ago.

He was born in Morgan County, April 9, 1874, a son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Higgins Eckerd. He was married to Martha Ann Michael, who proceded him in death.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are five children - James H., Bunker Hill; Ralph, George Foster, Mrs. George Moore and Mrs. Roscoe Peer, Berkeley Springs; a sister, Mrs. Barbara Roby, Brunswick, Md.; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

The body will be removed from the Parks Funeral Home today to Mount Zion EUB Chruch, Sphors Cross Roads, where services will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST with Buff Scott, Jr., minister of the Berkeley Springs Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
