Mrs. Anna Mary Ayers (Otto) wife of E.H. Ayers of Estancia, New Mexico, died at her home Friday, October 12, 1917, of bright's disease. The remains were brought to Republic county and burial was made in the family lot in Union Valley Cemetery Sunday afternoon, October 14th. Rev. Hicks, of the Scandia Methodist church conducted the services. A large concourse of old neighbors and friends in Union and adjoining territory, where Mrs. Ayers had lived so long and was so well known, attended the last rites at the cemetery. The deceased was liberal in her religious views, having been brought up a Catholic, but was later affiliated with the Protestant church. The Ayers family was one of the strong pioneer families of Republic county and have many friends here who will join in extending sympathy.

The deceased was born in Prussia, September 19, 1850, came to America with her parents at the age of five years, location near Appleton, Wis. They later moved to Richardson county, Nebr., where they resided until the spring of 1871 when they moved to Union township, Republic county. The subject of the sketch, together with Henry Otto, homesteaded in Union township, four miles north of Scandia in sections 20 and 21. She was married November 9, 1873 to A.H. Ayers. Two children were born to this union, the daughter dying in infancy. Fred H. Ayers, the son, resides at Estancia, New Mexico. The Ayers family moved to Estancia in 1909, where they have since resided.

Relatives from abroad attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Otto, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Otto and Joh Otto of Marysville, Kansas; E.H. Ayres, Fred H. Ayers and son, Edgar H., Jr., of Estancia, N.M.
