Christoph Heinrich Marti September30, 1871 - June 3, 1951


Funeral services for Christ H. Marti, 79 years of age, a resident of Monticello for the past several years, who passed away in the Monroe hospital Sunday following a long illness, were held at 2 Wednesday afternoon in the Stuessy funeral home, Monroe. The Rev. L. A. Brown, pastor of the Bethel United Brethren church, Monroe, officiated, and burial was in Greenwood cemetery, Monroe.


Following the death of his wife, Mr. Marti made his home with members of his family for a number of years, but for the past few years he had been a resident of Monticello. He became ill in the winter and had been hospitalized since the inception of his illness.


Mr. Marti was born in Switzerland and came to America with his parents when he was but seven years of age. He attended schools in Monroe and Jordan townships.

In 1892 he was married to the former Anna Brechlien. The couple farmed in Monroe

township at Stearns siding for a number of years, movings to Monroe in 1933.

Mrs. Marti passed away in 1937. He was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical church, Monroe, and old Company H of the national guard.


He is survived by two. sons, Leroy and Alvin, both of Monroe; five daughters, Mrs. Sanford Smith, Jamestown, N, Y,, Mrs.. Thomas Cotherman, Monticello, Mrs. Frank G.: Clark, Belleville, Mrs. Cecil Holloway and Miss Mildred Marti, Washington township; two brothers, Jacob, Beloit, and Larry, Cambridge, Idaho; a, sister, Mrs. Danial Feldt, Alton, Ill; 11 grantchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded. in death by 10 brothers and five sisters.
