Alan Thompson Tattersall, Sr., 88 died October 1, 2008. He was born in Ramsbottom, a suburb of Manchester, England on February 26, 1920 and in 1925 his family moved to the United States. He moved to Florida in 1938 and has been a resident of Jacksonville for over 50 years. Alan was a Lieutenant in the US Navy during WWII serving as a Navigator on many flights in the Pacific. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserves after the war. He worked a variety of jobs be fore taking a job with Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. ACL eventually became Seaboard Coast Line then CSX from which he retired in 1982 after 40 years. He loved to travel and after raising his family, took many road trips and several extended Hawaiian trips with his wife, Merle. In May he participated in the third "Honor Air" trip to Washington D.C. sponsored by the Rotary Club of Orange Park SUNRISE along with 98 other WWII veterans to see their WWII memorial. He participated in the wreath laying ceremony at the "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" in Arlington National Cemetery. He loved to collect stamps and railroad photographs. Our dad and our hero will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Merle (Bailey) Tattersall and six children, Phyllis Jeanette Pagona, Alan Thompson Tattersall, Jr. (Christie), William Larry Tattersall (Linda), Kenneth David "Bobby" Tattersall (Michelle), Donna Jean Ford, and Donald Lee Tattersall; 2 stepsons, William Conrad Caputo (Judy) and James Richard Caputo; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandson. He also leaves 2 half brothers, Fred and Pete Tattersall of Orlando. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Charlotte (Thompson) Tattersall and sister, Ruby Roberts.
