James Adams, the son of Sanford Adams and Amy Ashley, was born in South Carolina, but moved to Fayette County, Georgia with his family as a young child. He married Elizabeth Spradlin on 23 Oct 1851.
He was a private in Co. B Cavalry Battalion, Cobbs Legion. His wife's pension application states that he surrendered on 9 April 1865 at Appomatox Courthouse. Other records state he was paroled at Greensboro in on 1 May 1865. Pension records also give his date of death as 24 March 1893. He lived through the harrowing experience of the Civil War and losing four of his dear brothers.Co B Cavalry Battalion
