J. C. Bishop, 90, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Donalson Care Center. He was born in Jackson County, Ala., on November 20, 1922 to Jones Henry and Evie Precise Bishop. He graduated from Hazel Green High School in 1942 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he served in the Pacific Islands through World War II. He worked for NASA in Huntsville, Ala., for over 50 years.
Along with his parents, Mr. Bishop is preceded in death by his wife, Odell Phillips Bishop; two sisters, Neta Grooms and Freida Stewart; four brothers, Jones Howard Roy, Audrey and Fred Bishop.
He is survived by daughters, Becky and Joe Bankston of Jackson, Linda and James Bridges of Horton, Ala.; sons, Ricky Bishop of Fayetteville, Mike Bishop of Athens, Ala.; sister, Sybil and Lee Hinman of Huntsville, Ala.; brothers, Charles and Rachael Bishop of Benita Springs, Fla., Billy and Aretta Bishop of Huntland; sister-in-law, Ann Biles; eight grandchildren, Margaret, Corey, Caroline, Tony, Ryan, Amanda, Dwain and Carmen; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday morning in the chapel of the Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with James Bridges officiating. Burial followed in State Line Cemetery. Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
