Lillian was born in New York City, the daughter of John G. and Mary Abel Widmayer. She married Howard W. Gifford about 1903, and they set up their household in New Dorp, Staten Island. Howard and Lillian were the parents of one son, Francis "Frank" W. Gifford. After a long illness, Lillian died at her home on Christmas Eve 1932.
