John William Harney was the son of Anthony Henry and Mary Ellen Ford Harney. He graduated from the Parnell High School in 1958.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, spending a year in Vietnam.
John lived for a year in Alaska and then moved to Oregon, where he owned and operated an auto repair business.
