About 1910 grandmother Mary Jane Robinson left her home in Burning Springs, Kentucky as an orphan, after her mother died. She walked away from her home and some where around Burning Springs, Kentucky, grandmother Mary worked for a short time for a farmer and his wife as a housekeeper. This couple took Mary into their home sometime after working for the farmer and his wife. Mary went to work as a waitress in a cafe in Manchester, Kentucky, where she met her husband Charles Wilson Kratzer, who was working as a printer with the newspaper in Manchester, Kentucky. They married on April 12, 1912 in Hamilton Co. Kentucky. After their marriage they moved to Springfield, Ohio where their children, Helen Julia (Kratzer) Davis, Margaret Josephine (Kratzer) Gravette and Charles Wilson Kratzer were born.
They later moved to Dayton, Ohio where grandfather Charles worked as a printer and Linotype operator for the Dayton Daily Newspaper in Dayton, Ohio.
Mary Jane Kratzer was the daughter of Edward George Robinson and Mary Tennessee (Phipps) Robinson, both born in Clay County, Kentucky. Mary Came from a large family, altogether 13 children, Mary was the 9th child.
