Willie was the son of Fred Johnson and Rachel Napier Johnson. He was educated in the Peach County School System. As an adult, he relocated to Houston County. He worked as a Farmhand with Harris Farm for many years. He was a member of Resurrection Baptist Church in Warner Robins, Georgia where he was Ordained as a Deacon.
He was married to Mary Mathis Johnson.

3 Sisters: Ruby Washington, Dorothy Tennery and Edna Mae Ezell.
