Mrs. Era Jewett, 96, of Portales, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at her home in Portales.
She was born on Aug. 17, 1908, in Boyd, Texas, to Mary Ann and William Samuel Lavender. She married Elliott Jewett on Nov. 12, 1930, in Marietta, Okla. They made their home in Fort Worth, Texas, for several years. In 1943, they moved to a farm east of Portales where they farmed until their retirement in 1975. In 1997, she moved to Golden Acres Retirement Apartments and in 2001, she moved to the Bee Hive Residence. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Portales. For many years she was a member of the East Valley View Homemakers Club. Family members said she enjoyed gardening, as well as needle point and crocheting and playing dominos.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Evart and Andrew Lavender; a sister, Edna Vanzant; two daughters, Ruth Lorraine Jewett and Alma Ellen Morgan; and a grandson, Aaron LaRue.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Robert Morgan (and wife, Joyce) of Clovis; four grandchildren, Vicky Wilhoit (Berry) and Sherry Rose, both of Portales, Kenneth Morgan (Brenda) of Friona, Texas, and Don Morgan (Donna) of Tucson, Ariz.; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales. Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Kenneth and Don Morgan, Berry and Clay Wilhoit, Paul Luscombe and Daniel Caywood.
Honorary pallbearers are Tyler Wilhoit, John Rose, Ryan and Jerad LaRue, Tucker Morgan, as well as all her friends.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
