Singleton Husband Kimmel died at Cape Girardeau, Mo., of cancer of the face, after a long illness. He left a large estate. Said to have been born in Berlin, Pa., his mother having died at his birth, he was raised by his grandmother Juliana Ruby Kimmel, wife of George. Moved with his father in 1813 to Pittsburgh and in 1814 took a stock of goods to Kaskaskia, Ill., and became largely interested in mercantile pursuits in Southern, Mo. and Ill. having 6 or 8 country stores, making his headquarters in Philadelphia, Pa. and New York--later in St. Louis, Mo., at which points he made purchases for his stores. He was a member of the St. Louis City Council for several years--1840-1850.
Married first Caroline M. Manning in February 16, 1830, in Perry Co., Mo.
Married second Sarah Gorgas, March 3, 1836.
