Benjamin is a son of John Henry and Nancy Jane (Lackers) Goff. He married Mary Bell (Jeter) Crouch, a widow, in Bedford Co., Virginia on 12 September 1865. Mary died in 1883.

Benjamin moved to Michigan before 1900, and married Helen Lucinda (Wells) Webster in Cassopolis, Cass Co., Michigan on 8 August 1906. Helen died in 1912. Benjamin married Helen Jane (Kent) Traverse in Centreville, St. Joseph Co., Michigan on 9 April 1914.
