Earl Hastings Wagaman was born in the home of his parents, Hastings Mark and Louisa (Hornung) Wagaman.

Earl's family moved to Bogard in 1910, when the older children had married. His father bought lots 180-220 in what is now known as the W.E. Thomas addition to the original town of Bogard, which was 40 acres bought and sub-divided into lots. This home, when it was finished, was the first house to be built in the north end of Bogard. Earl and Jesse began their education at Powell School, and finished at the Bogard School after their family moved to Bogard.

Earl married Rhoda Mae Simpson April 7, 1917, at Rhoda's home in Coloma, Carroll County, Missouri. The couple lived on a farm north of Bogard until 1930 when they had a sale and moved to Bogard. After the death of Earl's mother, they purchased Earl's home place and lived there the rest of their lives.

Earl operated a garage in Bogard for many years. After selling out he did carpentry work in and around Bogard until his retirement. Rhoda worked as a telephone operator in the Bogard switchboard and as a clerk at the Bogard Post Office from which she retired after 25 years.

Earl and Rhoda were members of the Bogard Church of Christ. Though Earl and Rhoda had no children of their own, they helped raise some of their nephews. Earl and Rhoda wrote at the time of their 50th anniversary that, "having no children of their own, they have been blessed with several nieces and nephews who look in on them, being concerned about their health and happiness, for which they are eternally grateful."

Earl's siblings were:

Harlan "Harley" David Wagaman (1882 - 1968)
Clarence Edgar Wagaman (1884 - 1938)
Gertrude Ann Wagaman Benson (1886 - 1947)
Jennie Estella Wagaman O'Neal (1888 - 1947)
Willa Maude Wagaman Vaughn (1890 - 1942)
Jesse Leland Wagaman (1896 - 1972)
