Ruth Lake Holmes
1918 - 2012

Ruth Lake Holmes passed peacefully into the afterlife on November 27, 2012 in her home while doing the crossword puzzle in the newspaper. She was 94 years old. Ruth left a heritage of giving and providing support to others. During her lifetime she cared for many family members and actively helped them pursue their dreams.

Ruth was born to Emery D. and Georgie Evelyn Warner Lake on September 20, 1918 in Olivia, Minnesota. She was the eldest of three siblings: Evelyn Lake Malkasian (now deceased), Charles Lake of Eugene, Oregon and Ralph Lake (now deceased).

Ruth married Jim Holmes of Eugene in 1936. In 1948 she earned her private pilot's license and loved to go on flying adventures to far-away places. For a number of years Ruth managed her family's business Eugene Granite & Marble Works, which was founded by her grandfather Bert Lake in the 1890s and operated by her father until his death in 1944. Beginning in 1955 Ruth continuously served on the Board of Directors of Eugene Pioneer Cemetery Association. Spiritually, Ruth Holmes was a Teaching Priestess in Eckankar, the Ancient Science of Soul Travel.

Those who knew Ruth will attest to her connection to the Mohawk Valley woodlands. She enjoyed a lifetime of canine companionship and loved animals of all kinds. Ruth considered Hawaii to be paradise, especially Maui, and was able to visit the islands 53 times during her lifetime.

Ruth has now gone to be with her husband and their daughter, L. Ruth Blattler. She is survived by sons Quentin Holmes and Robert Holmes of Marcola. Ruth had 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A private gathering for family members will be planned at a later date.
