Arlene Ione Nelson, 64, died Saturday, May 14, 2005, at her home in Winona, MN, with family at her side. She had been ill with cancer. Arlene was born November 6, 1940 at the home farm in Fremont Township, MN to John and Ella (Bartelson) Antonson. She married Travis Nelson on July 6, 1963 in Rushford, MN. Arlene and her husband farmed for many years, and Arlene worked as a lab technician for Froedtert Malt in Winona for 18 years. Arlene was an active member of Rushford Lutheran Church in Rushford, MN. Arlene enjoyed reading and writing and never missed sending a card for any occasion, or calling family to sing "happy birthday" to them. Arlene supported and volunteered for the Winona school district and previously for Home Delivered Meals. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and deeply loved the farmland she and her husband nurtured through caring for livestock and gardening. Arlene stood up for injustices; it has been said that you never had to wonder what she was thinking. She was preceded in death by her parents.
