Esther I. SMITH, 67, 417 W. 13th St., Rochester, died at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at Woodlawn Hospital. She had been in failing health for four years.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1939, in Mentone, to Elmer O. and Cleora E. (Dillman) Quier. She married Richard Smith on Sept. 10, 1955, in Mentone. He survives.

She worked at Bradway Farm Center, Akron, Federal Mogul, Leiters Ford, Comfort Inn, Hart Schaffner & Marx, Hickory Creek and Life Care, all in Rochester.

She was the secretary for the Civil Defense from 1979 to 1984. She enjoyed making quilts for her family and also playing on the computer.

Survivors include two daughters - Kathy and husband Randy Furnivall, Rochester; Kim and husband Terry Valentine, Logansport; two sons - Karry Smith, Tampa, Fla., and Kevin Smith, Logansport; a daughter-in-law - Sandy and husband
Sam Foster, Winamac; two sisters - Linda Combs, Jackson, Ky., and Mary and husband Doug Castle, Kenton, Ohio; two brothers - Donald and wife Pat Quier, Rochester, Walter and wife Betty Quier, Nyona Lake; eight grand children and four
great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Karl Smith, a sister Edna Busz, and a brother, Arthur Quier.
