Andrew S France, 82, a retired farmer of Henderson County, died at his home here Sunday at 3:30 PM, following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2PM in the Oquawka Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. Lester Earp, pastor of the local Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. Friends may call at the France home this evening.
Mr. France had been seriously ill since last Tuesday when he sustained a heart attack. He fractured one hip eight years ago, but had been able to get around.
Born in Oquawka Township July 5, 1870, Mr. France was the last surviving member of a family of 14 children. He was engaged in general farming until 1918, and later farmed on a smaller scale, raising melons and truck farming. He had resided in Oquawka since 1918.
Mr. France's first marriage was to Maude VanCleve [1897], who preceded him in death. A son, Clyde E France, was born to the couple and he was killed in 1918, while serving in World War I.
His second marriage was to Sarah Hayes, March 10, 1914, and she survives, along with a son, Ross France, at home, who was born to the couple in this marriage.
Mr. France in early life joined the Rozetta Baptist Church and was a member of this church at the time of his death.
