Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer (Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois), Monday, July 9, 1962:
Funeral services for Roland L. Porter, 69, of Troy will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Edwards funeral home, Troy, with interment in Friedens cemetery there. Mr. Porter, who resided at 118 East Market St., died early Saturday morning at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland.
He was born March 8, 1893 in Troy, the son of Robert and Mary Isaac Porter. He was married to Ella Gaertner on April 5, 1920 at Belleville.
Mr. Porter had been associated with Porter & Preston Garage, Troy, from 1925 to 1942, and in '42 he and his son, Burl, became partners. Mr. Porter retired in 1958.
Besides his wife and son, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Don (Lavern) Scott of Fort Lewis, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Meyer, Troy, and Mrs. Bertha LaBegue, Greenville; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was a member of Friedens E&R church, World War I Barracks 286 and American Legion Post 708 of Troy.
Friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening at the funeral home. The Rev. R.H. Mornhinweg will officiate at the final rites.
