Florence's obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, August 29, 1954.

Mrs. Florence States, 74, of Dellroy, died Monday morning in Mercy Hospital, Canton, from injuries received in a two-car crash at 10:45 p.m. Sunday night at the junction of Routes 43 and 171, four miles north of Carrollton. Mrs. Slates was a passenger in a car driven by her son-in-law, Donald Burris, 44, of Dellroy. Other passengers in the car were his wife, Mrs. Ruth Burris, 33, and his daughter, Jane, 7. They were treated for cuts and bruises at Mercy Hospital and released.
Sheriff Richard Beamer reports that Burris apparently missed the stop sign at the junction and his car was hit broadside by a car driven by Everett Bond, 70, of Carrollton, who was going south on Rt. 43. With Bond was his wife, Edna, 65, and Mrs. Olive Roudebush. Mrs. Bond suffered a broken leg and bruises of the eye and hand. She is recovering in Aultman Hospital. Mr. Bond was shaken up and badly bruised. Both cars were damaged extensively. The junction has been the scene of several accidents due to the sharp knoll just west of the intersection.
Born near Leavittsville, Mrs. Slates was a life resident of Carroll County. In recent years she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a member of the Nazarene Foreign Missionary Society and the Church of the Nazarene where she was a Sunday School teacher. Her husband, Charles Slates, preceded her in death in 1935.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Burris; one stepson, Marion Slates of Cuyahoga Falls; one sister, Mrs. William Saltsgiver of Alliance and one grandchild. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday afternoon from the Church of the Nazarene in Dellroy with the Allmon Funeral Home in charge. Rev. A. E. Leonard officiated assisted by Rev. M. F. Reynolds. Burial was in Leavittsville Cemetery.
