Viven "Irene" Chaney Shively, 74, of 116 Wood St., Martinsville, died Jan. 19, 2012, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 14, 1937, in the Henry to Melvin Chaney and Etta Mae Wright Chaney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Rosevelt Chaney and Herman Chaney.
She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Martinsville.
She had worked for American Furniture Co. for 20 years and Bassett Furniture Industries for 27 years.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Buren Lewis Shively of the home; a son, Lane Shively of Martinsville; a daughter, Vivian Handy of Collinsville; four sisters, Bonnie Lawson of Ridgeway, Avis Smithers of Lexington, N.C., Lessie Foley of Patrick County and Cheryl Carter of Collinsville; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Alvin Nunley officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends for one hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the home of her son, Lane Shively, 304 Greyson St., Martinsville.
