Sam Styles was born on a farm near Goree, Texas, where he lived with his family until he was nine years old. His parents bought a farm a few miles south of Seymour, Texas and he worked on that farm and others until 1947, when he moved into Seymour.
He first owned a service station on the Fort Worth Highway, later he bought lots on 300 S Main and built a service station there, also a feed store, which he operated for many years, until ill health forced him to retire.
