A native of Albany, CA, he was the son of the late Louis Wayne Ackerley and Roberta Stephens Rush. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Corinne Ackerley and sister, Joan Boston. Robert served his county in the US Navy, retired from the University of Georgia in the Food Services Maintenance Department and was a member of Joy Faith
Christian Center. He lead a very active lifestyle,
bicycling, running, swimming and cross country snow skiing. Robert actively participated for over 20 years in Triathlons, both in California and Georgia. In later years he enjoyed dirt bike riding.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his sons: Stephen (Laura) Ackerley, John Ackerley; sister: Gail (Robert) Lee; grandchildren:
Robert Fears, Naloni Rucker, Dennis Voorhees, John Ackerley II, Todd Ackerley, Benjamin Ackerley, Robby Ackerley and nine great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 2PM at Athens Memory Gardens.
