Mary Ann (Ontis) Cochran, 77, daughter of Charles "Tommy" and Lottie (Hessenauer) Ontis, passed away at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at Christian Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born Feb. 26, 1934, and raised in Alton. She spent a major part of her life in the Colorado mountains.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Steve) Greeves, grandchildren, Cassie and Garret Greeves, one great-grandson, Layne Garret Greeves, all of St. Louis. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert (Della ) Ontis, of Lexington, N.C., and Dale (Joanne) Ontis of Alton.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, William Van Preter and Ron Cochran; her parents; a brother, John (Marion) Ontis; sister, Patsy (Pete) Monroe; and several nieces and nephews.

this morning at 10 o'clock Sept. 19, 1953 in St. Mary's Church. The Rev. Anthony Schmidt officiated, using the double ring ceremony, and after the wedding read nuptial mass. Max Hiendlmayr was at the organ. The couple's attendants were the bride's brother and sister- n-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dale E. Ontis. Miss Ontis, who entered the church with her uncle, Kenneth C. Porter, wore an emerald green velveteen street length frock, designed with a round rieckline, cap sleeves, and a full skirt. Buttons placed down the front of the dress. She wore a gold hat and gloves, and a yellow rose shoulder corsage. Her purse and shoes were of bronze suede. Mrs. Ontis appeared in a two piece teal blue suit, black.velvet hat and accessories, and had a corsage of bronze porn pons. Breakfast for the bridal party was served at Mineral Springs Hotel, and this afternoon Mr. Vanpreter and bride were guests of honor at a reception held at the home of the former's aunt, Mrs. Mayme Alexander. After a short honeymoon Mr. and Mrs. Vanpreter will reside at 306 Dry street. Mr. Vanpreter is an employe of Albrecht Chevrolet, Inc., and Mrs. Vanpreter. daughter of Charles Ontis of' Dow and Mrs.Lottie Ontis of 2505 Denny street, is employed in the Alton office of Millers Mutual Insurance Co.
