There was an obituary published for Dr. Goering in the "Tacoma News Tribune," of October 12, 1973. He was an orthopedic specialist in Tacoma, retiring in 1969. He came to the United States with his parents when he was eight-years-old.

After graduating from the University of Iowa Medical School, Dr. Goering came to Tacoma in 1928 and established a clinic with Dr. Roger Anderson at Pacific Avenue and 29th Street. He returned to the University of Iowa for additional training and became a certified orthopedic surgeon in 1930.

During World War II, Dr. Goering served in the Army as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery for Barnes General Hospital at Camp Roberts, Calif., and at the Oakland, Calif. Regional Hospital.

He joined Madigan General Hospital in 1946 as a civilian consultant. Until a heart attack in 1961, he served on Madigan's orthopedic staff, as well as carrying on a private practice in Tacoma and doing consulting work for the American Lake Veterans' Hospital and the Tacoma Indian Hospital. Dr. Goering retired in 1969. In 1970, he was designated a "Consultant Emeritus in Orthopedics," by Army Surgeon Gen. Hal B. Jennings Jr.

Dr. Goering was a member of the Tacoma Rotary Club, the Pierce County Medical Society, the American College of Surgeons, the Rose Society, the Military Order of World Wars, the Pacific Northwest Surgical Association, and he was a charter member of the Audubon Society. He was survived by a son, a daughter, and two grandchildren.
