Mary Eleanor Christensen, 83, of Owatonna, formerly of Blooming Prairie, died Thursday, June 2, 2005.
She was born January 1, 1922in the County of Durham, England, the daughter of John and Jane (Clements) Clarkson. Mary married Gordon A. Christensen on September 25, 1943, in Chorley, England. She arrived in the United States (New York) in April 1946 along with more than 700 other war brides and children.
On June 4, 1951, she became a United States citizen, which she was very proud of attaining. Mary worked numerous jobs, especially her job as Rehabilitation Supervisor at Prairie Manor for 25 years. She enjoyed traveling, knitting, reading, swimming, and biking. She especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Elaine (Frank) McNulty of Owatonna and Sandra (Darrel) Iverson of Blooming Prairie; son Trevor (Deb) Christensen of Mankato; brother, William (Jean) Clarkson of Sunderland, England; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two granddaughters, Dara Christensen and Tammy Iverson; three brothers, Jack, Norman, and Harry Clarkson; two sisters, Jane and Lallie.
Visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2005. A private family service will be held. Burial will be at a later date.
