Daniel P. Hole was born in Washington county, Indiana; came to Mason county in 1846. His first enterprise was making brick in the Salt Creek bottom. Afterwards returned to Indiana for several years, and was employed by his father, Stephen Hole, in a large steam saw-mill. About 1851, returning to Illinois, he engaged in business at Havana with his brother, James H., under the firm name of J.H. & D.P. Hole. This relation continued, in one way and another, until 1865. After which, for several years, Mr. Hole conducted a very successful merchandise business on his own account. May he live until the next centennial, as much respected as he has been in the past. He was married to Miss Dollie Taylor. The fruit of this union is three children.
