He was first married to Faye Eastberg on 5 January 1957 in Ward County, ND. He was later married to the widow Cora Evelyn Nygaard Windahl (1917-2006) on 7 March 1981 in Pope County, Minnesota. He died on 6 December 1984 in Hoffman, Grant, MN at the age of 68. He was interred at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
