Harold "Bud" Elmer Thomson was born March 25, 1920, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, to Charles Elmer and Maude McKinney Thomson. Youngest by twelve years of three children, and the only boy, Bud had a rather separate childhood from the older sisters.
Bud got his schooling in Terre Haute, Indiana, and on March 13, 1939, twelve days before his 19th birthday, he entered the US Army, serving with the Armed Forces Police Detachment, 709th Battalion, in Giessen, Germany, with a rank of Master Sargeant. He was a member of the American Legion post in Estes Park, Colorado.
On Sept 22, 1956 Bud married Maribeth Elkins at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Reno, Nevada. He returned to service in Germany, and she joined him there for a short time, after which they made their home in Reno, Nevada.
Bud had an AA degree from college, and served as the Washoe County Sherriff's Deputy for many years. He was a member of the National Police Officers Association of America, Nevada Police Officers Association, and a licensed radio-telephone operator. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Reno, Nevada.
After his wife Maribeth passed away in 1977 following a long illness, Bud remarried in 1979 to Florence Schmidt of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Surviving family includes a son, Patrick L Thomson, and a daughter, Margaret Louise Thomson, both of Reno; Sister Elah O'Brien of Estes Park, Colorado, Sister Mabel Martin of Pleasant Hill, California, three nephews and two nieces in California and Colorado, and their various offspring.
