The son of William Jean Hunter and his wife Maria Spainhour, both of Jackson Co., MO.

He was born in either Jackson Co., MO, where his parents were living in 1850, or Cass Co., MO, where they were in 1860.

He married 1880, Reno Co., KS to Elizabeth A. __.

Their land was on the Peace Creek and only half a mile from the Rice county boundary to the north. It was two or three miles from the Hayes Township cemetery.
