PIONEER CITIZEN DIES AT HER HOME IN MACON
Mrs. Sarah Margaret Smith, wife of the late George R. Smith, died yesterday at the family home at 301 South Rollins Street in Macon.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at Stephens & Goodding Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Kring Allen, pastor of the Christian Church of Macon. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Sarah M. Ballenger was born in the vicinity of the once college town of Bloomington on July 31, 1858. Her father was John Ballenger, a pioneer school teacher and leader in church affairs of the community.
She was married to the late Goerge R. Smith and two children, G. Arthur Smith of Moberly and Zelva Smith of the home, were born to this couple.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Christian Church, transferring her membership to the Bevier Christian Church many years ago.
She maintained a keen interest in all happenings of the community, as well as world affairs. She enjoyed keeping in touch with her schoolmates and other friends and returned many times to the old homestead in Bloomington.
